Mysterium 2006
Mysterium is a yearly convention of fans of the Myst series. This year, it was held in Spokane, WA.
Thursday
After three awesome flights, I arrived in Spokane on Thursday evening. Not only can you find the Guild of Greeters in the newest D'ni neighborhoods, but there was a Greeter to greet me at the airport as well. Excellent service!
On the way to the airport, I snagged a burger at Sonic. They advertise in the Northeast, but there aren't any of them around here. It was great to finally try them out!
Friday
(Left) My brother, Mihshehl, Lehsa, and I went on The F'li's photo scavenger hunt on Friday. We didn't find very many of the locations, but it was still a blast trying. Could this big foot be related to the SASQUATCH codename?
(Right) K'laamas loves penguins! But does he love abstractness?
Saturday
The group gathers for a tour of Cyan Worlds, makers of the best-selling PC game of the 20th century. They're also the owners of the best front door in the world. The tour even included a trip to D'ni... or at least a look at some models the Art Team built to develop Uru!
A signed copy of Bill Amend's comic FoxTrot hangs on a wall at Cyan. In the comic, Jason creates a game Riviablo. Cyan also houses many D'ni artifacts, including Linking Books, D'ni Goggles, Gehn's pipe, and several safety cones.
This unique light fixture hangs in Cyan's conference room. The conference room also contains a clock that opens to revel a small animation and plays a happy melody to call employees to meetings.
Deg prepares to ride Cyan's elevator down to D'ni (notice the D'ni numerals on the buttons). Next, we head outside. I wonder if a Spyder could climb this wall...
Rand Miller, sporting longer hair that his family isn't too fond of, speaks to fans gathered around for lunch. Many questions are answered, "in the future."
Trent (from GameTap) and Rand (from Cyan) answer questions. Later in the day, Rand "takes the journey."
Rand hangs outside Cyan's offices while Quality Control is barricaded into their offices until the finish testing the client.
Cho, recently turned invisible, gets to hang out with awesome architecture at Cyan.
Novah presents on The Ages of Ilathid. River presents his Myst journal recreations.
Mysterium featured an Ahyoheek tournament. Fans often gather in the hotel lobby into the early morning hours. This photo features FaceInTheDoor, Queue, and DannyR.
Sunday
Ran and Rex Havok photograph each other at the disc golf course.
Great weather, blue skies, and tall trees in Spokane.
Ran retrieves his EDGE disc while FaceInTheDoor, M@, and K'laamas play catch.
AllMyst and Vaaht throw.
Washington state feature flora and fauna not found in the North East. We hiked through much of it to find two Geocaches. Eleri, with purple hair, appears in this photo.
The cache we found contains some cool stuff. Later that day, we laugh way too much during dinner.
EricL, an Untìl Uru shard admin and contractor for GameTap, takes us for a tour of Riverfront Park.
The sidewalks contain special areas for the Uru Zandi dance. EricL describes the legend of the Garbage Goat. My two feature requests for Uru Live: change the male avatar dance and put in a Garbage Goat!
It's a giant Radio Flyer wagon! We also discover this strange Channelwood-like bench near the park.
We also stumble upon a Great Tree-like spiral. Zadok travels this spiral, but nothing happens.
Would you like to see photos from other attendees, photos from previous Mysteriums, or other Mysterium-related links?
