Building a Home instead of a Home Page

HammerWhen working on a web site, I’m in my element. There’s code flying everywhere. It’s create to create digital things (like video). But creating real things is even better.

Last Saturday, I was far from knowing what I was doing. I, along with a group of Behrend InterVarsity students, spent the day working on a house for Habitat for Humanity. It was a blast!

Let’s break it out into some bullet time:

  • Having no construction knowledge made it really easy to ask stupid questions.
  • I got to weild a hammer, some tin snips, and a whole lot of spackle.
  • It was very awesomely insightful learning just a tad about all of the work that goes into building a house.
  • Someone gets a house to live in!

Afterwards, tired and hungry, we plowed into some authentic Chinese food (Thanks Kristen and Andrew!). Very tasty.
I strongly encourage everyone to help out Habitat. It’s something that everyone should experience at least once. You’ll be glad you did.

I am really glad you tried helping Habitat!! And, I really enjoyed your “real person” post. I nice to know that you do have feelings and opinions and arent a completley computer generated, emotionless, opinionless person!!! Habitat is great because it allows one the opportunity to learn things one never dreamed possible. If you are willing to learn, you can be taught a world of knowldege. Habitat can literally take 30 people who never touched a hammer or nails and build an entire house with them. It’s amazing the abilities God can equip us with when he calls us to a job. Maybe next you should put a post about trains, bridges or water?!?!?!?!
